Painting Title: Purple Leaf

About the Artist:
Dilbeck lost her sight totally 57 years ago when she was 15 years old. While she does have some light perception in one eye, her art is produced by touch and intuition and a lot of times she just guesses.

Because Dilbeck relies on touch and feeling, she has been working with objects from nature and found objects. She draw as she feels. Recently, she has been collecting an assortment of pods, seeds, shells, and such. She wanst to show the intricate interiors; all the details of what’s inside.

Artist's Statement:
My themes are mostly about nature, about things I’ve experienced. I like to think about different seed forms as having great potential. What will they become? How will they grow? It’s kind of a metaphor for ourselves. Hopefully my work provokes thoughtfulness.

I see God everywhere in nature. I’ve begun working in clay and make clay orchids. This is something I can do on my own with very little help. Sometimes they’re painted and sometimes I use glaze and have them fired.

I make relief prints on Styrofoam because I can somewhat feel the lines of my drawings. A lot of colours remain in my memory and I enjoy choosing and mixing up colours. But I need help with the painting process.

Most recently, I began working with finger paints and watercolours because I can do it on my own and combine the drawings into Styrofoam. I’m mostly painting outdoor scenes, flowers and natural objects.

My hope is that my work will give joy and inspiration to others.
