Connections 2 (2005)

Painting Title: I Know

About the Artist:
Before March, 1990, in my premorbid life, I was an academic and loved doing research and teaching. On that particular day, fate intervened in the guise of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) and channelled my life into the very different avenue of art.

After many years of being bed ridden with severe muscle weakness and fatigue, I had a desire for colour. My parents brought me some paints which I happily doodled with. This doodling, over eight years, has, surprisingly, resulted in my becoming an artist.

Artist's Statement:
When pondering this etching, I marvel how nature loves to fill a void with abundant life.

Art is a way for me to BE in the world and to honour life. My print and painting subjects revolve around my passions:

  • the natural world that surrounds and holds us
  • the earth under our toes
  • the women that shake the world
  • and the mathematics of connection.
