Connections 2 (2005)

Painting Title: Joan Of Arc

About the Artist:
Judi taught art, sculpture and photography in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Her art work has been exhibited in galleries around the world.

Since graduating with an honours degree in fine arts, Judy has worked in a variety of 2D and 3D media including watercolour, photography, clay and silver.

In 1993, Judi was involved in a minor vehicle accident, suffering a C-3 spinal cord injury (incomplete Quadriplegia). She was in the hospital from January 30 until Christmas of 1993. Though she regained some strength and sensation, Judi was unable to return to teaching. Nonetheless, she has continued her art, travel and equine sports.

Judi competed as a member of the Canadian Paralympics Equestrian team at the 2003 World championships for Riders with a Disability” in Moorselle, Belgium. She was a double bronze medalist ranking #7 in the IPEC World Rankings and qualified for the Canadian Paralympics Team to 2004 Athens Paralympics.

Artist's Statement:
"Joan of Arc" symbolizes the inner strength of women despite oppression, adversity and hardship.

Since her accident, physical limitations and challenges have impacted on her choice of media, she continues to find inspiration from her travel and her love of horses.

Judi’s art work has been influenced by her adventures to third World countries, including Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and South America.
