Connections 2 (2005)

Painting Title: Duality of Floating

About the Artist:
My work focuses on the poetic and uses analogy, symbolism and metaphor to convey some element of myself. Almost all my work is autobiographical in nature, using manmade and natural symbols that represent either what is besetting me the time, or what I am experiencing in my survival. Being a writer also has me using both poetry and painting to focus in on an idea, approaching it from different areas of the brain. Often my poetry is placed alongside my painting to complete the idea the idea in a gallery setting.

Artist's Statement:
In Duality of Floating, from the following Ascendant Series, I find myself neither here nor there. I am perhaps the water plants, floating on a temporary, evaporative support, or their reflection, floating in a sky that may be clearing or may be clouding up.

In water, I am alive, green, healthy. In reflection, I am shadowed, dark, upside-down.
