Connections 2 (2005)
About the Artist:
Early on in her childhood, Pierrette felt and expressed a passion for
artistic creation. The spark that ignited her inspiration and creativity
is very much alive and thriving although tainted by the gradual loss of
her eyesight.
Not one to give up easily, Pierrette's inventiveness and curiosity have led
her to successfully explore a variety of mediums and disciplines throughout
the years.
As a youth she would delight the family and friends by bringing stories to
life with her drawings or with illustrations of children's television
characters. Her artistic quest eventually led her to the Beaux-Arts for
children and from there to college in plastic arts where she also dabbled
in theatre productions.
During this period she developed a very personal and recognizable style
particular to caricaturists and cartoonists. Her popularity in this genre
quickly evolved to greeting card, posters and illustrations for children's
books which became her trademarks as a humoristic artist.
Always welcoming new challenges, her art is later enriched with acrylics,
pastels, inks and felts. Then on to photography. Her photographs are being
used in the experimentation of a new technique – that of collages.
Pierrette's recent audacious and contemporary works are the result of the
juxtaposition of these photos with imaginary settings modified in colour
and shape through laser prints.
Creating within the limited confines of her extremely reduced eyesight,
Pierrette nevertheless radiates and communicates a fascinating vision of
the avant garde in her works.
Artist's Statement:
"In my work I am like a funnel, drawing upon either the core elements or
upon a concentration of all my learning."
