Over the next months Abilities Arts Festival will be expanding its Events and Activities listings to connect artists with artists, and the broader disability arts and culture community, as well as examining other ways we can help facilitate communication. SUPERFEST International Disability Film Festival Calls for Entries
Your Opportunity to Contribute to Disability Culture

SUPERFEST, the world's longest-running juried international disability film festival, is seeking your entry for submission to our 2010 film competition. SUPERFEST is the primary international showcase for innovative films that portray disability culture and experience in all its diverse, complex, and empowering facets.

FINAL ENTRY DEADLINE:
January 15, 2010 (post-marked). Early-bird discount if mailed by Dec. 15, 2009. Judging will take place in Spring 2010, and winners will be announced on or around April 1st, 2010. Winners will be screened in Berkeley in June 2010, and all entries will be listed in the festival catalog. Winners will be asked to provide still production photos and film copies for publicity purposes.

Tying Your Own Shoes is an intimate glimpse into the exceptional mindsets and emotional lives of four adult artists with Down Syndrome. An artful, four-way essay about ability, this animated documentary explores how it feels to be a little bit unusual.

PLAYING FOR OTHERS Arts Festival
Playing for Others is a non-profit organization that provides a unique opportunity for teens to utilize their creative talents to make a difference in the community. The program partners yearly with different non-profit organizations that serve children with special needs. Through a nine month volunteer program, teens learn the importance of community involvement while raising funds for the partnered non-profit organization. As a culmination of the program, they host a 3-day Arts Festival, showcasing their many talents and various artistic works

Sprout Film Festival
The Sprout Film Festival (SFF) aims to raise their profile and showcase the work of people with developmental disabilities by presenting films of artistry, intellect and innovative styles. The SFF hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of people with developmental disabilities, provide incentive for those in the media to cover these subjects, and expose viewers to important issues related to the field. The goal is an enjoyable and enlightening experience that will help break down stereotypes, promoting a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities.

DanceAbility Workshop with Alito Alessi
The Momo Mixed Ability Dance Theatre is proud to present internationally known teacher and choreographer Alito Alessi. This 5 day dance workshop explores basic movement improvisation with people with all abilities. Working in small groups to shape short dance pieces, we will find the unique language of each person's body and learn to express ourselves and communicate without speaking.

June is Brain Injury Awareness Month across Ontario!

Brain Injury Society of Toronto is inviting you to this exciting Event and Survivor Celebration!

Join us for the 10th annual Brain Injury Awareness event! The event, set for June 17th at Nathan Phillips Square from 12:00 - 2:00 pm, promises great entertainment, featuring a Battle of the Bands and a “Cerebral Circus” (with an exciting team of Circus Performers) all M.C.'d by Chris Brown. Come support the survivors who will display their own artwork and talents, and help raise awareness about the effects of brain injury.

Admission is free and the organizers recommend arriving fifteen minutes before each session commences at the main TOAE information booth on Nathan Phillips Square.

All sessions will be an hour in length and moderated by TOAE’s programming coordinator, Jenna Oldham.

TOAE is the largest juried outdoor art exhibition in Canada that offers a fresh-air alternative to conventional art shows and galleries. 2010 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition
Tour of the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition
Friday July 9th, 2010 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join AAF board member Flavio Belli for a tour of the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. The tour will visit booths displaying as many different categories as possible, such as painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, fibre, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, watercolour and wood. During the tour, we will also discuss the application process, meet and speak with some artists and generally get a feel for the exhibition and the realities of spending three days on the square as an artist exhibiting and trying to sell your work. The tour departs from the INFORMATION BOOTH (right in front of front-doors to City Hall) at 4:00 PM and will last approximately one hour.

UNITY Kickoff
The Kickoff 2010 in support of UNITY Charity will be Toronto’s biggest youth urban arts event of the year. Taking place on Saturday July 24th at Yonge-Dundas Square, the event is also UNITY Charity’s largest fundraiser of the year.

A free all-day event including live performances by youth and professional artists, urban art classes, break dance battle, public art spaces, and much more. The Kickoff 2010 hopes to entertain both youth and people of all ages, allowing them to experience the energy and passion of the city’s young performers.

The Canadian Society for Social Development - Online Training

The Canadian Society for Social Development (CSSD) is a federally incorporated non-profit with charitable status, providing online-training to Canadians with disabilities. See: www.cssd-web.org

Courses have online coaches that work with you throughout the day; there’s also, live workshops in a virtual classroom. Programs include:
1) The Internet Business Development for Entrepreneurs (IBDE), web design program. It is a six month, online accredited course that teaches you how to create a website for either your own business or for other small businesses. To sign up for the October intake go to: www.ibde.ca.

2) The Business Abilities Program. This is a free, 1 year self-paced business planning and management course for persons with disabilities. You will learn how to research your business idea and create your own business plan. See: www.businessabilities.ca for intake opportunities (ongoing)

2nd Biennale Ippocampus Ciak International Cinema of Deaf 2010 (Milan, Italy)
The theatre company "Without Words" Cinema Group Ippocampus Ciak aims at meeting the international deaf communities in the spirit of friendship and participation. Through the visual medium of filmmaking and universal art that is widely loved by deaf people, we wish to promote the emerging Deaf Cinema with an interesting film festival which includes several international talented authors and artists. We are happy to announce the foundation of a biennial international review film maker for deafs that will be hosted every 2 years in Milan, selecting and to rewarding the best created cinematographic from deafs persons of all the world.
