CONNECTIONS 2:   2005 International Art Exhibition


CONNECTIONS 2, Ability Festival's visual arts showcase presented an amazing array of watercolors, oils, pastels, acrylics, mixed media, collages, fabrics, and photography by artists with disabilities from across Canada, the United States and from countries around the world.

This juried international art exhibition, held at the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery from October 27, to November 20, 2005 presented works by 47 different artists.

The opening of this month-long exhibit was used to launch Abilities Festival. Exhibiting artists, invited guests, the public at large and the media attended the opening to view, purchase and just enjoy the richness of the exhibit and the diversity of the works.

Opening evening guests were also treated to performances by the award winning musician Terry Kelly and well-known comedian, Alan Shain.

Patrice Kouma

Patrice Kouma is an artist who is deaf due to an early bout with meningitis. In 1985, at the age of 15 he started painting with Sr Maria Rosa, an Italian. Kouma's paintings have been shown at many exhibitions throughout the Cameroon and were featured in a series of greetings cards produced by Gallaudet University in Washington DC in 2000. In June 2004, Kouma's work was showcased at VSA Arts Festival in Washington DC. Patrice Kouma currently teaches painting and ceramics to youth with disabilities. <Read More>
