David Becker
Ottawa, Canada
About the Artist:
David Becker is a self-taught artist who works primarily with colour photography.
He was born in Stratford, Ontario and has lived in a number of towns and cities
in Ontario, Manitoba and New Brunswick, as well as a two-month working visit to
Shannon, Ireland. He currently lives in Ottawa.
David has been visually impaired since birth and this disability presents
him with challenges and opportunities that give him a unique view of the
world and influences his work in a number of ways.
Most of David's images are taken in urban areas and capture the small visual
delights that go unnoticed by the majority of people. He rarely manipulates
an image outside of the camera.
Since 1971 David has been selling his work privately as well as in galleries
in the Ottawa area, Toronto and Barcelona, Spain. His works hang in public,
private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, Europe,
Australia and New Zealand.
David features prominently in solo exhibits, group exhibits, public and private
collections as well as in media and print events. In 2005, David appeared in the
feature article, “The Joy of Being a Visually Impaired Photographer”, in
Canadian Camera Magazine's Fall 2005 Issue.
