About the Artist:
Ken is a person with MS who finds painting gives him great feeling. He uses it to express
the way MS affects him.
"My condition leaves me in agony every-day; I go to bed about 4pm every day. But can't
sleep and am very very tired all the time. But despite this I find that painting, making
music, and taking photo's help me cope with the pain. It gives me a focus. I am very
lucky though. I have a family that supports me; my wife Eliane is just brilliant and
copes well with our situation as well as looking after our children. The best thing that
I can advise people to is find something that really pushes their buttons and give it a
good go, but only do things when you feel that you can. Don't get pushed by college
tutors or course leaders if you don't feel ok do as much as YOU feel you can, and enjoy it."
Artist's Statement
These images are there for the finding, it just takes one to go and look for them.
They relate to the treatment of people who have a difference, (disability). As a group
we are ignored by society at large, often spoken over by people as to about our well
being. My partner is often asked, "How is he?"
"Well, I am fine," I answer. Like this situation, these reflections are ignored by the
masses for the bigger picture, where I believe that these images are far more interesting
than the whole of the surface that reflects them. It is about exposing what we don't
see rather than the obvious.
