Sophie Ouellet
Woodbridge, Canada
About the Artist:
Sophie Ouellet was born with cerebral palsy, a neurological condition which severely
affects her dexterity and causes tremors. For Sophie, routine tasks such as sewing,
cooking, or holding a glass filled with water is nearly impossible. At the age of 6
years old she took her first dictation using a typewriter. Typing is her only method of
writing.
Sophie writes, "I used to take for granted that a disability prevented me from taking
pictures. However, after learning and intensively experimenting with the advanced functions
of a digital camera, and by applying the photoshop techniques that, for many years
I used to apply on pictures taken by others, I began to think otherwise."
Today, although Sophie still considers every single picture to be a challenge,
digital photography has turned into a passion, if not a way of life. It is from that
perspective that she is proud to show the fruit of her efforts.
