CALL FOR APPLICATIONS......Internships for Students with Permanent Disabilities
The Canwest Internships for Students with Permanent Disabilities are a series of five (5) internships awarded each year for the next five (5) years designed to encourage and aid Canadian talent in establishing or furthering a career in the Canadian broadcast industry. VSA is seeking emerging filmmakers with disabilities, ages 18-30, who are interested in expanding their knowledge of documentary filmmaking. March 2010

Five VSA apprentices will be selected to take part in an unprecedented gathering of filmmakers at the 2010 SilverDocs Festival. The apprentices will be introduced to professionals in the field, exposed to new technologies, and invited to participate in workshops that will refine their filmmaking skills. VSA apprentices will receive mentoring by AFI Silver's Education Coordinator Matt Boratenski. Their travel and accommodations will be covered by VSA and AFI.

Projections Film Forum: Films Announced   August 31st, 2009

Abilities Arts Festival is pleased to announce its selections for the 2009 Projections Film Forum. The Projections Film Forum will take place on October 8th and 10th at the Innis Town Hall, Toronto. 

The Projections Film Forum will begin on Thursday, October 8th with feature film Carts of Darkness, and short film I Go Backwards. Doors open at 6:30pm, screening begins at 7:00pm.

Projections continues on Saturday, October 10th with the new “Film Forum Youth Matinee,” presented by Scotiabank and specifically for youths and young adults aged 18-28.  The Toronto Premiere of feature film Sledhead will be accompanied by short film Urban Myth.  Doors open at 2:30pm, screening begins at 3:00pm.

Three films will close the Projections Film Forum on the evening of October 10th: feature film The Last Flight and short films Necessity and White Sound. Doors open at 6:30pm, screening begins at 7:00pm.

The 2009 Projections Film Forum   October 8th & 10th, 2009

The Abilities Arts Festival is seeking works by filmmakers with disabilities that exemplify excellence, innovation and creativity in film. Films that provoke, enlighten and offer diverse perspectives. Films that are innovative and entertaining. We welcome submissions of features, documentaries, or animation films that are either feature-length or shorts.The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2009. In the picture-postcard community of North Vancouver, local bottle collectors have turned the act of binning into a thriving subculture of shopping cart racing. Astral Media Mentorship Award – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS   March 28, 2008
Women in Film and Television – Toronto in partnership with Astral Media is pleased to announce the Call for Application for the first annual Astral Media Mentorship Award program. This national competitive program will give one talented Canadian female or male producer of a visible minority, Aboriginal or disabled group, the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2008 Banff World Television Festival through an intensive pre-festival mentorship and festival bursary with an Astral Media Executive. Applications due by April 21, 2008.

Matt Savage

At 15 years of age, jazz musician Matt Savage has already won numerous awards. He is also the youngest pianist and only child in Bösendorfer's 178-year history to be signed as an artist. Joining Matt was joined by John Funkhouser on bass and Steve Silverstein on drums in an outstanding performance of jazz originals and mainstay hits.
