Andre Arruda
(Canada)
Andre Arruda is a stand-up and sketch comedien whose bold stage presence and cutting edge comic jabs belie
his three-foot-four frame. Born and raised in Kitchener, Andre moved to Toronto in 2001 to attend the
“Comedy: Writing and Performance” program at Humber College. That same year he made his stand
up début by winning the Caps comedy championship.
His comedy can be best described as being filled with Lewis Black like rants blended with Bill Cosby like
stories about his life as a physically disabled little person living in a world of giants.
Andre has performed sketch comedy for almost ten years, touring to various schools all over southern Ontario
and at venues such as The Heart House, Tim Sims Play house, Second City Toronto, Laugh Resort, The Rivoli
and as a regular at Yuk Yuk’s in Toronto.
No stranger to Television and Film, Andre has appeared on almost every major Canadian network including CTV, CBC,
The Comedy Network, Global, and MTV Canada; and on Fox Sports as a series regular on Out of Bounds: With John
Oakley. Andre was featured in: My Brother, My Keeper, which was awarded the winner of the Best Moc Doc Award
at the 2006 World of Comedy Film Festival. Andre is also no stranger to the stage performing in many productions
of playwrights such as Shakespeare, Molière, and Tennessee Williams. In 2006 Andre stared in Piccasso
Pro’s Oops! at Summer Works, playing a disabled con artist/bank robber. The show won the Now Audience
Choice Award.
