Sheila Boyd

(Canada)

Sheila's first shot at the limelight came in 1968, when she was eight years old and honoured as that year's Miss Easter Seals in Hamilton, Ontario. She weighed just 32 lbs and was less than 3 feet tall at the time, Mayor Vic Copps claimed "She's the cutest one yet!"

Boyd was born with spina bifida, club foot and scoliosis, but she has been determined never to let her disabilities be an obstacle in pursuing her goals. Today, she is a singer and actor who has appeared in episodes of Due South, Goosebumps, Exhibit A, and the feature films 54 and A Simple Wish. She has appeared in a variety of cabaret theatre productions, sings the Canadian and American national anthems at hockey games and fundraising events And is currently the ACTRA Toronto Performers Diversity Advocate and Chair of ACTRA’s AccessAbilities Task Force.

As part of Abilities Arts Festival 2005, Sheila Boyd performed at the festival's Sunday Morning Show.
