Sidiki Conde and Tokounou
(Guinea, West Africa)
The call to sing and dance first came to Sidiki Conde in a dream. He was 14, living in Guinea, West Africa,
and had recently lost the use of his legs due to an illness. Music and dance became his transcendence and
his vocation.
This internationally recognized and award-winning drummer, dancer, and singer has performed with the
prestigious Les Merveilles de Guine, with Africa’s star performers including Baba Maal and Youssou
N’Dour and at leading venues and festivals across the United States, Africa, Europe, Australia,
Japan and throughout the world. He has been recognized with numerous awards and artistic residencies in
the United States and abroad.
The Artistic Director for the World Music Institute in New York states “not only is he is an
extraordinary acrobatic dancer, drummer and singer, but also a fine composer, songwriter and
choreographer”. Dance Critic Jennifer Dunning wrote in the New York Times “He is a performer
of immense warmth, skill and agility’.
Sidiki Conde and Tokounou’s performances have been described as mesmerizing, with the power of the human
spirit shining through.
