Full Spectrum Workshop Series Kicks off May 9!

This series of workshop, master-classes, presentations and panels covers a wide range of topics of particular interest to artists with disabilities. Full Spectrum is designed to enhance opportunities for professional development for artists from across a broad spectrum of the disability and deaf communities; and to generate greater community awareness and engagement with issues in disability arts and culture.

Come join us for the series launch on May 9th and hear about the rest of our spring 2011 series.

Full Spectrum 2011 is hosted by Ryerson School of Disability Studies.

Session One, May 16:
Funding & Grantsmanship

Representatives from the Canada Council for
the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council offer information about their programs and answer your questions.
Session Two, May 30:

JUNE 6: Vocal Power

A master class with acclaimed singer Tim McCallum & vocal coach Kyra Millan
Location: Soulpepper Theatre; 5:30-7:30pm

This master class provides performers with the opportunity to develop their vocal power and presence. The workshop begins with a basic vocal warm-up, and techniques on how to use the voice freely in singing and speaking - followed by vocal coaching on audition texts and songs. Participants are encouraged to bring in recording device so they could take this warm up home and use it for their own personal audition and show prep.

JUNE 20: Seizing the Means of Production - A Primer

In association with ACTRA Toronto
Location: Trinity Square Video; 5:30-7:30pm

Not seeing your world reflected in the scripts and up on the screens? Time to take matters into your own hands? Need to do it on a shoestring? This workshop provides an overview, introduction and checklist for arts professionals considering a move into producing and directing their own work. A special presentation by ACTRA representatives will provide invaluable information and support for ways to draw upon the talents of professional performers while keeping within your shoestring indie budget.

My work is influenced by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, and tao & zen philosophy. Though I feel there are many complexities inside my imagery, I struggle with the contradiction that comes in paring the work down to the Simple.
